What is Neuro Holistic Physiotherapy?
Our bodies are designed to move. The brain knows nothing besides what the body tells it. It relies on accurate information from muscles, eyes and ears to know where it is in space to move safely and efficiently. Inaccurate information causes the brain to make inaccurate movement decisions and pushes the body out of balance.
Why would the body send inaccurate information to the brain? For a number of reasons including using habitual suboptimal postures, compensatory patterns due to injury, joint misalignment and overuse. Practice makes permanent and if we repeat these postures, over time the brain accepts them as our familiar safe place. Connective tissue called fascia weaves in and around our muscles in specific directional pathways, connecting and orchestrating movement throughout the body. Over time, fascia holds in place our habitual movement patterns and can become stuck. I work along these pathways, releasing the restrictions in fascia and honouring the interconnectedness of the parts with the whole.
Rehabilitation is based on the principle of neuroplasticity, which is the brain's amazing ability to adapt to new information. Correcting posture and movement improves the accuracy of information to the brain, resulting in neurological changes which cascade down into the body and improve the way we move.
